C Api Mysql For Mac Os

Dear Kent, Presumably, AB would like for me to get hooked on the community version and then graduate to the paid support, etc., but how will I ever be impressed with mySQL unless I can get it working? Specifically, your documentation of the C and C APIs for use with Xcode are appalling to non existent. Apple claims you are are using Macs for in house development, so it shouldn't be beyond your capabilities to publish a decent idiots guide for the likes of me. I can write C and C code, but I'm application orientated - I don't understand all the (necessary?) in and outs of compiler and link loader settings. I just want to get on with the job, without having to spend another several week trying to get this project past the start line. I'm using Xcode 3.1, OS X 10.5.6 and trying to talk to a FreeBSD 7 server running MySQL 5. I've written a small test program, running on a Mac, which will link and connect - but only in Debug mode.
